The two medical technology divisions of the Masterflex Group supply important components for the care of COVID-19 patients and thus support system-relevant medical areas in Germany.
"Flatten the curve" - is the order of the day. Flattening the curve so that adequate care for patients suffering from severe COVID-19 disease can be guaranteed throughout hospitals..
Novoplast Schlauchtechnik and Fleima-Plastic, the two medical technology brands of the Masterflex Group, supply important medical hoses and connectors for this system-relevant area. These help to provide ventilation for COVID-19 patients and for magnetic resonance examinations of the lungs.
Novoplast Schlauchtechnik is currently producing 3-layer multilayer tubes for use in the respiratory gas analysis line of artificially ventilated patients. The CO2 concentration or partial pressure is measured in a bypass flow process. Both are the basis for enriching the supplied breathing air with anaesthetics or oxygen. Fleima-Plastic manufactures the appropriate connectors, which are necessary to connect the tube with the tube connection and the ventilator. Both parts are matched to each other in such a way that there are no leaks that could lead to incorrect measured values.
For the detection of corona foci in the human lung, magnetic resonance imaging is often also used. With this method, the visibility of the inflammation is already good without additional contrast medium injection. However, many doctors now also perform contrast medium injection using high pressure (< 21 bar or 350 psi). As a rule, quite hard, pressure-insensitive monolayer and co-extruded tubes from Novoplast Schlauchtechnik are used here. Pressure-resistant connectors from Fleima-Plastic are also used here.
Due to the high demand, work is being carried out on the capacity limits at both Masterflex Group medical technology sites - Halberstadt and Wald-Michelbach. The Masterflex Group is doing everything in its power to keep production operations at Novoplast Schlauchtechnik and Fleima-Plastic going. As companies in the "critical infrastructure" (KRITIS) sector are also supplied, the Masterflex Group has applied for special status for this area. This is to prevent a possible closure of the plant with far-reaching consequences for the supply of COVID-19 patients.
The Medical Technology business unit accounts for around one-fifth of the Masterflex Group's revenue.
Specialist for the production of filigree plastic tubes and profiles
Our knowledge in the field of extrusion is tailored to the needs of medical technology manufacturers. Extruded plastics are often the solution in medical technology when it comes to optimum flexibility, hygiene and the production of prototypes.
For medical technology, we offer both microextrusion for tubes with a diameter of less than 2 mm and co-extrusion for inserting functional strips in the hose wall.
Specialist for the production of high-quality injection moulds and injection-moulded components
Our injection moulding production at Fleima-Plastic takes place under controlled process conditions. We have 22 injection moulding machines and our own mould and tool shop. We can quickly and efficiently create the designed tools and moulds and test the first injection mould samples within a very short time. Our mould making department is staffed by highly experienced and highly trained toolmakers and mould makers.
In the field of medical tubing, we offer you a variety of products, which we adapt to your specific application:
In the field of standard medical components, we already offer an enormous variety of products. We will be pleased to help you find the right connectors, clamps, caps or adapters for your applications based on your requirements such as tube diameter or material.
